Character Info
Character's Name: Pyra/Mythra/Pneuma
Character's Canon: Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Character's Age: Pyra has been in existence for 500 years. Mythra has existed for 503 years. Pneuma has been existing for millions as a core processor, but only awakens into a corporeal body during the events of the game.
Canon Point: During Pyra's sealed slumbering state below the cloud sea (i.e. after The Golden Country prequel, but before the main events of the story). Note: This means at that this canon point, only Pyra is active. Mythra exists and is aware of what is going on in the world with Pyra, but remains in a dormant state. Pneuma as a person is not awakened, and Pyra/Mythra are only vaguely aware that she exists (albeit, they do not have a title/name to give her).
Background/History:
Pyra's wiki page.
Mythra's wiki page.
Pneuma's wiki page.
Main plot of Xenoblade Choronicles 2, but if that's too much, here is the shortened Aegis plot wiki page!
Strengths:
Pyra
Compassionate: Pyra is the first aspect of the Aegis to which the player is introduced, yet she is the state in which the Aegis is weakest. As the player later finds out, Pyra is a construct of Mytha so that Mythra could fall into dormancy. Despite being a shade of Mythra, Pyra is a force to be reckoned with on her own-- but not solely out of sheer power alone. Pyra's strength comes from her character: she is kind, she is sincere and earnest. She is reserved and careful, taking the time to think out strategies in her battles. She both looks to help others when they are in need, and she is someone who is always willing to lend an ear. Pyra's gentle empathy is her best feature, and she sees this as valuable because it allows her to connect with others, to understand the world for which she wants to protect.
Appreciation: As a Blade that can remain even after their Driver dies-- as a Blade that can retain their memories even if their original Driver dies-- Pyra understands how fortunate she is. While she is not technically an actual Blade, she can sympathize with the plight of the other Blades whose fates and lives are literally tied to that of their Driver's. Rather than flaunt her privilege, Pyra feels that she has a responsibility to those less fortunate than her. In her mind, being an Aegis doesn't give her a right to lord over anyone or destroy the world, as is the case with Malos/Logos. Similarly, she enjoys seeing life of all different kinds flourish in the world, whether that be humans, flora, fuana, Blades, or the Titans.
Reserved: Pyra is a soft spoken and calm individual. She isn't quick to anger, and neither does she tend to react to being provoked. She's not easily bothered, and she's even more difficult to incite to attack, and much of this part of her comes from what she knows what it could mean when she loses control. Understanding that she has quite the bit of untapped energy within her even if she isn't the true face of the Aegis, Pyra works to keep that power capped. Because that cap is what Pyra is: a self-imposed limit on the Aegis's power by Mythra, a dormant state where not all of her abilities are accessible... and where the world may be safe because of it.
Mythra (Please note that at the point in canon she is taken from, Mythra has not awakened.)
Proud: Mythra is the personae that first appears on Alrest, and she is bold, undaunted and steadfast. When she begins something, she finishes it, and this isn't just because of her own sense of stubbornness. She knows she has the ability to back her own words, or at least try to in a fight. While on Alrest she had been hailed as a powerful, legendary Blade, and perhaps a bit of that has gotten to her head, but her confidence comes from more than just notoriety. It comes from who she knows she is as an Aegis-Blade, even if she is at most only vaguely aware of her true self. Mythra knows that she serves a greater purpose beyond being tied to a human Driver, and she derives some sense of self-worth from that.
Confident: Her resolve to see something from beginning to its end is almost unparalleled, and she's quick to make decisions because of it. When something needs to be done or when a decision needs to be made, no matter how difficult Mythra will come to her own conclusions as swiftly as possible. She listens to her instinct, and her instinct is rarely wrong. She rarely doubts herself when it comes to what she's doing, to the point others may think her a simpleton or shameless. But to Mythra, one needs the confidence to act when they have power: she must believe that her decisions are the best ones she can make given what she knows and feels at the time. That doesn't mean she is immune to guilt, of course, but just that she tries to mitigate any guilt that should come if she makes a miscalculation.
Bold: Mythra is not afraid to speak her mind. Unlike Pyra, she is not demure, and she is certainly not soft-spoken. If she has an opinion, she will state it. While she can be a little tactless and brusque at times, she is indeed learning as she goes along. Five hundred years ago Mythra was downright crude, but with her re-awakening in the game, she shows restraint to the effect that she is not painting humanity in only one negative light. Her boldness comes in the flavor of being a bit battle-happy as well. When there is a fight that's about to brew, she will be one of the first to leap into it for better or worse. Finally, Mythra forges her own path and makes her own decisions even without the will of her Driver-- which is something unheard of in her universe. As one character put it, she does what she wants all the time, anyway.
Pneuma (Please note that at the point in canon she is taken from, Pneuma has not awakened.)
Love: Pneuma is the true form of the Aegis, and she reflects a mix of Pyra and Mythra's personality. She is confident, calm, and thoughtful, but also acts when it is necessary to act. She will take both the information she's gleamed from a situation, but also consider both her and other's feelings when coming to a conclusion. What makes her act isn't some sort of responsibility or duty, it is her love. She loves the world because it is amazing to her-- for humans to come so far despite all the strife they have been through, for life to find a way to prosper even within the tumultuous environments of the Titan-continents, for people to come together despite their differences... Pneuma is in awe of what they have built and accomplished. She believes that for every nefarious human or Blade, there are far more who are good, and that goodness is something to be cherished and protected. She loves the new life the Architect created for her to monitor, and she wishes to see their lives be as peaceful as possible.
Poised: Take Mythra's confidence and mix that with Pyra's trait of being reserved, and poised is the result. Pneuma is proper and graceful, gentle but firm. Her speech is succinct, and her tone is simultaneously both calm and reassuring. She is open to conversation and debate, but if there is danger or someone is threatening those she cares for, she will be quick to act in their defense. As Pneuma is a blend of Pyra's and Mythra's personalities, she represents a unified and complete Aegis, a perfect harmony of the two.
Driven: As it is revealed in the game, the three Aegises (Ontos, Logos, and Pneuma) are core processors. They are literally a part of a computer, and not just any computer. They are part of a computer that was built to monitor and run the reality of their world. Pneuma is designed to be both an artificial intelligence-- that is, someone who can think, behave, and act on their own-- as well as a processor, as in someone simply responding to information and command input. Her goals are what the Architect had instilled in her since her creation millions of years ago, and each purposes arises as needed to certain stimuli, and she is only aware of each purpose as it arises in the moment. Whatever she needs to do to fulfill that goal, she will use her power to obtain it.
Weaknesses:
Pyra
Secretive: When the player is first introduced to Pyra she appears quiet but smiling to the protagonist, but her smile is rueful and her quietness carries a heavy sorrowfulness along with it. She does not explain why this is, and it is only later revealed that her request for the protagonist to bring her to Elysium was to "beg father to let us die" (with "us" referring to herself and Mythra). Mythra, and by extension Pyra, had come to the conclusion that theirs is a power too destructive for the world to remain in existence. Pyra keeps other secrets from the player as well, such as the existence of Mythra in general, which gives her the trait of being careful around others. She is aware that others would wish to control the power of the Aegis, so she take steps to ensure that she does not mistakenly reveal herself.
Wary: What prevents Pyra fully exploring her full potential even as the weakest aspect of the Aegis is that she fears harming others. She knows she has power, but she is afraid to use it. She knows that she can put an end to a conflict, but she is fearful of the cost to do so, of how many people she might hurt in the process. She hesitates when Mythra would not, and she holds back her opinions even when she does have something to say. She is uncertain, and does not wish to draw attention to herself for fear of someone discovering who she truly is.
Doubtful: While all parts of the Aegis may hide how they feel or if they're injured to some extent, Pyra is the one most guilty of doing this. She can have numerous bruises or cuts, but if she can hide them and simply put on a smile, she will do so. And she doesn't just put on any brave face or show, her hiding how she truly may be hurting is convincing enough to dupe even everyone in her party. She is an expert at deception even despite her sincere care for others. She does this not out of some penchant or belief that she must be a martyr; rather, she believes that her pain she experiences is nothing compared to what others have gone through, especially those she has (accidentally) killed in the past.
Mythra (Please note that at the point in canon she is taken from, Mythra has not awakened.)
Secretive: Mythra, although loud and brash in every other way, remains pointedly quiet about herself as an Aegis and to what extent her abilities can accomplish. While she can be sure to warm her opponents of what they might be getting into with a fight against her, she will not specifically give away, much less flaunt, them. She knows all too well how destructive she can be, especially when her anger is incited and she loses control. Again, like Pyra, Mythra will not reveal her true intentions to the protagonist or the party. It had been her conclusion to go to Elysium to beseech the Architect to let her die, as it had been her decision to remain dormant and create Pyra.
Callous: Mythra isn't exactly the most tactful person. In fact, she can be downright rude to others. The odd thing about her rudeness is that she doesn't exactly mean to be rude all the time, as sometimes her comments are, simply put, blunt. Although she's improving now, she still has a tendency to look at the human condition in a negative light. Not that she believes that they will always remain-- as she may think it-- selfish, harmful, and self-destructive, but it's more of a disappointment on her part. She expects better from them, and she wants better for them, too. Unfortunately, she does not know the best way to go about helping them without becoming frustrated.
Temper: Unlike the other two facets of the Aeigs, Mythra is the easiest to provoke. She can be hot-headed and quick to snap at someone, even among those she cares about. She may come off as boisterous, and more often than not she is someone who wishes to do things her way. Besides that, her tone can be brusque, distant, and not without a good dose of sarcasm. These are are all, of course, walls that she's constructed to protect herself. She doesn't wish to feel such deep connections with others if they might end up being killed by her. She's scared of becoming close to others, so it's better to push them away. At her current canon point she's coming from a place of deep pain, sorrow, and regret, having killed many in the fallout of her battle with the other Aegis named Malos. She is not as emotionally stable and sure as she was before, and this frightens her. The last thing she wants to do is to hurt someone. Still, she doesn't wish others to know that she is troubled, and being brusque and standoffish towards them is a good way to ensure she remains alone.
Pneuma (Please note that at the point in canon she is taken from, Pneuma has not awakened.)
Secretive: By the time the player meets Pneuma close to the end of the game, many of the game's secrets have already been revealed. But still more remain, and many of them lie within Pneuma. It seems that even with 100% affinity achieved with the protagonist, she will still not reveal all of what she is, at least not until the Architect reveals it to the main party. Some of it may because she herself is only vaguely aware of what all of her functions are, but when Pneuma wishes to do something she somehow innately knows the way to accomplish it. While this could be from her passive transfer of information from the world to her core crystal, in canon she refrains from telling the player/protagonist the full extent of it, only revealing what he needs to know when he conveniently and precisely needs to know it.
Self-Sacrificing: When there is only one path to take that will save those she cares about, she will take it. Not only will she choose to sacrifice herself, she will not tell others that she is planning on doing so. She will even directly mislead others and give them false hope rather than tell her party members how she truly intends to execute her plans. And while she does feel sorry to tell them goodbye and see their sorrow, she is not at all regretful for her own actions. She only does what was necessary to help them live, even if that means sacrificing herself.
Distant: In her truly awakened state, Pneuma is even less "human" than her counterparts. She still holds love and compassion for the world, yes, but there is a discrete, metaphorical boundary between her and the world. She loves the world and the humans in it, but her view of them is just slightly skewed in the sense that she views them as fragile and weak. While she still believes that they must be protected because of their fragility and cherished because of their potential, yes, her view of them is not unlike a teacher looking over children. She doesn't see them as less than her, but simply that they are her wards. To observe the world and its progression had been one of her prime directives as a core processor for the Architect, and she still maintains that in her true form.
Powers/Abilities:
Common Abilities among Pyra/Mythra/Pneuma:
♢ Please note that for this section, each ability gains in power between the three personalities. For instance, Pyra's barrier is the weakest, Mythra's is stronger, and Pneuma's is the most powerful.
♢ Superhuman speed/strength/endurance . The Aegis is not human even if she may look it. She can leap to great heights without so much as a sweat, and she can fall from great heights and not be hurt.
♢ Warmth. Pyra/Mythra/Pneuma is not affected by the heat or cold.
♢ Shield. All the Aegises can make a barrier fashioned out of a light- hexagonal-pattern. This barrier can negate physical as well as ether/magic-based attacks. All Blades have this ability, but the Aegis's barrier has been shown to protect her from entire missile bombardments.
♢ Sword. Specifically, the ability to summon their sword whenever they wish. Their sword can appear from their core crystals or simply their hand as they see fit.
♢ Artifice control. The Aegis can control their Artifices remotely, which are basically giant robots. They can also manually pilot their Artifices. Pyra has only some control of them, while Mythra and Pneuma have complete control. (Pyra/Mythra/Pneuma will not be coming with their canon artifices.... but I would like to explore the idea of her making a new one!)
Pyra:
♢ Wiki link to abilities section! Most of her attacks revolve around integrating sword + fire into heavy-damage-dealing attacks.
♢ Primary power is of fire. She has been shown to create fire at-will within the palm of her hands for mundane things such as lighting a fire or lamp. She can also blast fire from her hands as well, and she is able to melt through military-grade metal in seconds.
♢ She is an excellent cook.
♢ Passives include: increasing her and her party's accuracy and increasing critical damage.
Mythra:
♢ Wiki link to abilities section! Her attacks combine light + sword.
♢ Foresight: allows her to see into the future. In battle, this is used as a means to predict where an opponent will step or strike next, and this especially helps with opponents moving at the speed of light.
♢ Near-light-speed speed: She can only keep this up for a limited amount of time, however.
♢ Primary power is of light. She can create light within her hands, illuminating the darkness of an area wherever she walks, and use it for basic attacks.
♢ Passives include: Increasing damage dealt by two-fold when she or her party member is low on health/injured, increasing her and her party members's evasion and accuracy, and when critically hitting an enemy her power is recharged automatically.
Pneuma:
♢ Wiki link to ability section! Pneuma's attacks combine light + sword techniques for devastating hits.
♢ Speed of light: Pneuma can move at the speed of light (without breaking physics apparently), and also bring someone else with her to move at the speed of light if she so chooses.
♢ Core Cyrstal Healing: She can restore an injured Blade's core crystal. This is more specific to other Blades, so it probably won't work in this game unless other Blades app.
♢ Armor summon: Pneuma can conjure up an outfit/armor for those who are linked to her.
♢ Passives include: increasing critical hits and accuracy of her and her party members, on blocking an attack the would-be damage is completely reflected, all of her damage dealt to others (including a counterstrike) is automatically made to be of their weakness (i.e. her light power would somehow be a "weakness" to a monster with a different weakness).
Other Noteworthy Traits:
While Pyra/Mythra/Pneuma have a human appearance and can eat/sleep, they actually do not need to do either of those things!
Weapons & Other Special Inventory:
Pyra is appearing with nothing but the clothes on her back! (Mythra and Pneuma are still dormant within her, and likewise have nothing to bring along.)
Color:
This one, #27DEA9! Since Pneuma is the true Aegis, her color is most closely represented with this light shade of blue. It is the color of her core crystal as well, which is said to be the distinct shade of the Aegis.
Sample: Test drive sample!
[ OPTIONAL ] World Aspect:
Titan-Continents. Okay, get this, there are entire continents up in the air... that are actual living beings! Here is a wiki link. Each have their own distinct environment, and each are of a different class. Some Titan's livable areas are actually within them, while others might host cities on the tops of their backs. They migrate, but they move slowly enough so that earthquakes and the like are not too much of a problem for their inhabitants. The Titan-continents generally do not communicate with their inhabitants, all they do is wander around the heavens. It would be lovely seeing something like this appear even in a smaller version, like a floating island in the sky that just happen to be like, oh I don't know, a turtle or something.
